First name is sometimes spelt Frederic.

On marriage certificate, place of birth is given as Dumfries, Scotland and father is given as Samuel Cropper, a civil registrar. However, there is no trace of a Frederic(k) Cropper being born in Scotland during the years 1863-1892 (GRO, Scotland, cf letters dated 9/6/92 and 24/6/92) or during the years. On 1881, 1871 Census returns, birth date is abt 1860 from the age (consistent in both years) with place of birth Derby. Marriage certificate information is therefore erroneous. Parents Samuel Nathaniel and Mary Scott Cropper came from Nottingham and moved to Derby for the birth of their earlier children.
